How to add product categories in Shopify

To add product categories in Shopify, you can follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Shopify admin dashboard:
– Visit the Shopify website (www.shopify.com) and log in using your credentials.
– You’ll be directed to your Shopify admin dashboard.

2. Access the Products section:
– From the admin dashboard, click on the “Products” tab in the left-hand menu.
– This will take you to the product management area.

3. Edit or create a product:
– To add a category, you need to edit an existing product or create a new one.
– Select the product you want to edit by clicking on its title, or click the “Add product” button to create a new product.

4. Assign a collection to the product:
– In the product editor, scroll down to the “Organization” section.
– Click on the “Collections” field to assign the product to a collection.
– If you have existing collections, you can choose from the list by clicking on the checkbox beside each collection name.
– If you want to create a new collection, click on the “Create collection” button.

5. Create a new collection:
– If you clicked on the “Create collection” button, a pop-up window will appear.
– Enter a title for your collection, which will serve as the category name.
– Customize other options such as the collection’s description, image, and visibility settings.
– Once you’ve configured the collection settings, click the “Save” button.

6. Assign the product to the newly created collection:
– After creating a new collection or selecting an existing one, it will be assigned to the product.
– You can assign the product to multiple collections if necessary by selecting additional checkboxes.

7. Save the changes:
– Once you’ve assigned the product to the desired collection(s), click the “Save” or “Save product” button to save your changes.
– The product will now be associated with the selected categories.

8. Repeat the process for other products:
– If you have multiple products that need to be assigned to categories, repeat the above steps for each product.
– Remember to select the appropriate collections or create new ones for each product.

By following these steps, you can add various product categories to your existing installation of Shopify. Keep in mind that organising your products into relevant categories can dramatically help to improve navigation and enhance the shopping experience for your customers.
